Gait analysis provides information about how people walk and run. Abnormalities in gait patterns can lead to pain in the lower extremities, hips and back. Subtle problems are often difficult to pick up when observing people walking or running at their normal speed. Foot & Ankle Associates, LLP has a gait lab in the Kennett Square office equipped with two-dimensional video equipment, which allows us to analyze gait in slow motion and freeze frame. These are invaluable tools in diagnosing problems and planning the appropriate treatments.
The Gait Lab is also equipped with a state-of-the-art Parotec system, which is an in-shoe pressure measurement system. While being tested with the Parotec, the patient is free to move without a cable connection, which allows a more natural running or walking pattern on any surface during data collection. The software then provides graphical and statistical information for timely analysis whether trying to assess the risk factors for a diabetic foot, the impact pattern of a runner or the effect of an orthotic device.
