FOOT & ANKLE SURGEONS

IT IS ALWAYS OUR OBJECTIVE TO GET OUR PATIENTS BACK TO WORK QUICKLY, BACK TO THE RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES THEY LOVE AND TO RESTORE THE QUALITY OF LIFE THAT THEY DESERVE.

At our practice, Foot and Ankle Associates, we always look for conservative means of alleviating foot and ankle problems. However, there are circumstances when conservative treatment alone will not produce the desired outcomes and surgical intervention may be necessary.  These include everything from warts, ganglions, ingrown toenails, hammertoes, bunions, neuromas, heel spurs, fractures, ruptured or strained tendons, to flatfoot reconstruction and ankle surgery.

Our doctors attend CME courses throughout the year to keep abreast of new techniques and time honored surgical therapy. They share their new found knowledge with one another on a daily basis. Each Foot and Ankle Associates  doctor is involved with Graduate Medical Education at the various area hospitals showing a commitment to lifelong education and community service.

Once surgical intervention has been determined to be a viable course of action, we work closely with our patients to keep them informed from the point of evaluation, pre-op, the surgical procedure itself and the post-operative course of care. Minor procedures can be performed under local anesthesia in our office. More complex surgeries such as reconstructive foot surgeries are done in the hospital with mild sedation and local anesthesia. Schedule an appointment with our Foot & Ankle Surgeons for a comprehensive evaluation.

Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy

Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy is a surgical procedure to address chronic plantar fasciitis when conservative treatments have failed.

  • The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis in either a surgical Center or Hospital. Generally, the anesthesia utilized is IV (intravenous) sedation and local anesthetic.

  • During the operation the doctor will make 2, ½" incisions on each side of your heel. A special scope is placed underneath the plantar fascia. The doctor can now visualize the plantar fascia and typically a 2 cm segment is cut near the heel bone. The skin is then sutured and sterilely dressed.

  • Initially, you will be non-weightbearing for approximately 3-5 days. At that time you will be re-evaluated in the office setting where the surgical dressings will be removed and the site will be inspected. Typically at this time the doctor will put a smaller dressing on the sites and allow you to get a shower. Additionally, you will be able to weight-bear to some degree with a removable walking cast. Instructions will be given on the daily care of the surgical sites as well as stretching exercises. Sutures are removed in two weeks and usually physical therapy is initiated.

  • At about the third week you will be weaned off the removable cast and placed in a well supportive shoe with gradual return to orthotics. Generally the doctor will follow your progress over the course of the year.
