People would agree that our feet are usually the least appreciated and the most taken for granted assets that we possess. Since April is National Foot Health Awareness Month, here is a shout out to the magnificent work that our feet perform day in and day out; and a call to focus on foot health!

What makes walking, jogging, running, hiking, playing and more, so much fun and enjoyable? Our feet! One can only imagine how important their health and wellbeing is. Here are a few useful tips to keep in mind:

  • Wear the right shoes for the right job. Running shoes are not suitable for hiking as the surface is uneven and rocky at times, and one should definitely not run in flip flops! Choose your footwear wisely so that your feet are comfortable and safe from any harm.

  • Selecting the right size of shoes is equally important to ensure that your feet are not constricted or suffering from unnecessary friction. Make sure there is ample space for your toes to move inside your shoes.

  • Wear appropriate socks that safeguard your feet from sweat and infections. Socks should be airy and should keep your feet dry.

  • Maintain high standards of hygiene for your feet to avoid fungal infections, rashes, and other skin and toenail related issues. Wash and dry them thoroughly, then moisturize them according to your skin type. Make sure they are exposed to air every now and then; and do not keep them closed all the time.

  • While exercising is beneficial for the body, it is even more important to give ample rest to your feet and allow breaks in between physical activity. Idle time allows feet to regain their strength and repair any damage that may have been caused to the muscles and tendons.
